Generic neurontin prices : is it really cheaper?
Our study has been conducted in cooperation with the manufacturer of neurontin, Eli Lilly, on two separate occasions as part of our ongoing research into the cost of neuroprotective therapies. Previous studies by our group have concluded that neurontin does not reduce the risk of stroke and is not associated with the following risks:

To date, we have not come across any cases of stroke resulting from treatment with neurontin.
In our earlier study, we analyzed the data on price and benefit of various treatments concluded that the prices for neurontin vary widely and can be as low $60 per course or as high $2030 per course (compared to the average cost of a typical treatment for coronary artery disease, which is approximately $1900 per treatment year [1]). We concluded that when price is equated with cost, treatments in general do not represent a good value, either in terms of cost or benefit, for patients with existing disease.
However, it has also been reported that the price of neurontin decreases with time [2⇓–4]. As such, some are not convinced by the previous cost estimates, and they are looking to other factors, such as the duration of therapy and quality the drugs, to assess whether cost of neurontin can be justified. To date, there have been few systematic reviews examining these factors in order to determine the actual value of neurontin.
Our study was published following a comprehensive literature review on clinical trials the potential therapeutic effect of neurontin on stroke. Using a literature search of the Cochrane Central Register Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), MEDLINE, EMBASE, and CINAHL databases a review of selected articles, we performed a systematic review of relevant clinical trials on neurontin. A total of 56 reports unpublished clinical trials on the cost-effectiveness of neurontin were retrieved and included in our analysis.
